FMBN to Unlock 1,500 Homes for Jigawa Workers Through NHF Mortgage Window

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Shehu Usman Osidi, FCIB, FICA, FCNA, has announced the Bank’s readiness to partner with Jigawa State Government to facilitate mortgage access for workers to purchase 1,500 housing units being developed across the state.

Osidi gave the assurance while receiving a high-powered delegation from Jigawa State led by the Jigawa State Head of Service, Muhammad Kandira Dagaceri, at the Bank’s headquarters in Abuja.

He was joined at the meeting by the Bank’s Executive Directors of Loans and Mortgage Services, Hon. Dr. Muhammad Sani Abdu, Finance and Corporate Services, Ibidapo Odojukan and Business Development and Portfolio Management, Mrs. Chinenye Chinedu Anosike.

The Chief Executive commended the Jigawa State government under the strategic leadership of Governor Umar Namadi, for prioritising workers’ welfare through deliberate investment in affordable housing.

He stated that FMBN’s mandate is to provide mortgage finance to low- and middle-income Nigerians who are contributors to the National Housing Fund (NHF) Scheme.

In line with the Bank’s mandate and considering that Jigawa State had fulfilled its part of consistent contribution to the NHF Scheme, Osidi assured that FMBN would extend its window of the NHF mortgage product to eligible workers of the state to conveniently offtake the houses constructed by the government.

“FMBN is willing, able and ready to partner with the Jigawa State Government to provide mortgages for its workers,” Osidi stated.

He noted that Jigawa State’s strong commitment to the NHF Scheme positions it favourably for such collaboration, assuring the delegation of the Bank’s full support in facilitating access to affordable mortgage loans for the intended beneficiaries.

Osidi also lauded the state government’s decision to recapitalise Jigawa State Savings and Loans Limited with one billion naira, describing it as a strategic move to strengthen the state’s housing finance framework and complement FMBN’s intervention through structured mortgage packaging.

Earlier, the Head of Service, explaining the purpose of the visit said the Jigawa State government is constructing 1,500 housing units in three phases to promote affordable homeownership among low- and middle-income earners, particularly civil servants.

According to him, 500 units have already been completed under Phase One, while Phase Two, comprising 600 units, has reached about 60 percent completion. The final phase will deliver the remaining units, he explained.

Dagaceri commended FMBN for its critical role in expanding homeownership opportunities to Nigerians, noting that many Jigawa State workers have benefitted from the Bank’s initiatives over the years.

The delegation included the Jigawa State Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Ibrahim Babangida Umar, and the Managing Director of Jigawa State Savings and Loans Limited, Babandi Isah Gumel, among other senior officials.
