In a development carrying deep cultural symbolism and far reaching implications for diaspora cohesion, His Royal Majesty, AGABA’IDU, Elaigwu Odogbo John, CON, Ph.D, PFD, the Och’Idoma and Paramount Ruler of the Idoma Kingdom, on 28th February 2026 presided over the inauguration of the Executive Council of Idoma Community United Kingdom, firmly positioning the organisation on a renewed path of unity, institutional stability, and collective engagement with the homeland.
The ceremony, attended by Idoma sons and daughters drawn from across the United Kingdom, produced the emergence of Chief Dr Williams Obande Obeya as President alongside Mrs Catherine Otene as Vice President, Godwin Ejeh as General Secretary, Chris Diga as Financial Secretary, Francis Akor as Project Officer, Helen Joseph as Welfare Secretary, Matthew Onuh as Treasurer, Felicia Bathelomew Igomu as Women Leader, Jackie Monerville as Social Media Handler, Oliver Igoche as Youth Leader, and Tony Mary as Event Officer, with the Executive Council mandated to serve for a period of one year. The composition of the new leadership was widely interpreted by attendees as reflecting collective confidence in a team expected to consolidate harmony while advancing the interests of the Idoma community within the diaspora.
Addressing the gathering with royal composure and unmistakable authority, the Och’Idoma conveyed greetings from the ancestral throne of Agaba’Idu in Otukpo and reminded participants that identity remains inseparable from unity regardless of geographical distance. “From the ancient throne of our ancestors founded upon justice, unity, honour, and communal strength, I extend peace, goodwill, and fatherly affection to every Idoma son and daughter gathered here today,” the monarch declared.
His Royal Majesty described the visit as deliberate and deeply significant, noting that it marked his second international engagement within six months undertaken to reinforce the enduring bond between the throne and Idoma citizens abroad. “This has been a deliberate royal pilgrimage undertaken out of deep responsibility and genuine affection for my children in the diaspora,” he stated, emphasising that diaspora communities remain vital stakeholders in the future of the Idoma Nation.
Without revisiting past differences, the Royal Father characterised the inauguration as evidence of maturity achieved through dialogue and collective understanding, affirming that “what we witness today is the rebirth of a coordinated and respected Idoma presence in this nation.” He stressed that the future of the Idoma people must remain anchored on unity, adding that “Idoma remains greater than any individual, the Kingdom stands greater than any office, and our shared heritage surpasses every disagreement.”
The monarch further urged the Community to maintain structured alignment with Ochetoha K’Idoma, the apex socio cultural body representing the unified voice of the Idoma Nation worldwide, stressing that coordinated representation strengthens global recognition and influence. “When Idomas speak anywhere in the world, the world must hear one voice and recognise one people bound by shared identity and destiny,” he declared before granting full royal endorsement to the Executive Council and entrusting it with the responsibility of safeguarding unity, credibility, and honour.
In his acceptance speech, President Chief Dr Williams Obande Obeya expressed appreciation to His Royal Majesty and members of the Community for the confidence reposed in the new leadership, describing the mandate as both an honour and a responsibility. “We accept this responsibility with humility and deep commitment. We assure His Royal Majesty that we shall remain worthy ambassadors of the Idoma Kingdom wherever we reside,” Obeya said.
He assured the monarch that the new Executive Council would prioritise unity, transparency, and inclusive participation while sustaining strong developmental ties with the homeland. “Our mandate includes giving back to our roots, strengthening our connection with home, and ensuring that our children understand their heritage while contributing meaningfully to the growth and dignity of the Idoma Nation,” he added, pledging loyalty to the throne and commitment to responsible leadership.
The new President subsequently announced 8th August 2026 as the date for the next Idoma Day celebration in the United Kingdom, calling on Idoma sons and daughters across Europe to gather in unity and celebrate their shared cultural heritage.
Beyond leadership transition, the Och’Idoma used the occasion to emphasise the preservation of Idoma language, customs, and moral values among diaspora families, urging deliberate transmission of cultural identity across generations. He also encouraged economic cooperation through patronage, mentorship, and investment among Idoma owned enterprises as practical expressions of communal solidarity.
The inauguration equally aligned with preparations for the Idoma Centenary Plus Celebrations 2026, commemorating one hundred and three years since the establishment of the Idoma Division in 1923. Describing the moment as historically symbolic given the United Kingdom’s connection to the early administrative history of the Division, His Royal Majesty urged diaspora participation ahead of the grand finale scheduled for 23rd December 2026 in Otukpo, encouraging families abroad to reconnect younger generations with their ancestral homeland.
Offering concluding counsel to the new leadership, the monarch reminded them that authority must be sustained by discipline and maturity, declaring, “Position gives authority, but maturity sustains leadership.” He thereafter charged members to embrace reconciliation, cooperation, and service as enduring pillars of communal progress.
As proceedings ended with royal blessings pronounced upon Idoma families across the United Kingdom and the global diaspora, the London gathering projected a clear and confident message that the Idoma Nation is steadily consolidating its global presence through unity of purpose, responsible leadership, and sustained allegiance to the enduring throne of Agaba’Idu.
