China urges Global South nations to increase communication, coordination for development

A Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi had urged Global South countries to increase communication and coordination and to jointly defend their legitimate rights and interests, and work together to expand the space for independent development.

Mr. Wang who made this known Sunday at a press conference while responding to a question on the Global South cooperation said the collective rise of the Global South was the distinct hallmark of the great transformation unfolding in the world.

He informed that its share of global economy had grown from 24 percent to over 40 percent in the past 40 years, stating that it had become a key driver of multipolarity in the world.

Minister Wang noted that hegemonism and power politics were asserting themselves and dealing a heavy blow to the international order.

As a response to the foregoing, Wang urged Global South countries to increase communication and coordination, jointly defend their legitimate rights and interests, and work together to expand the space for independent development.

Continuing, Wang stated the Global South was an emerging, positive force for good on the international stage, stressing the need to forge greater confidence and unity, pull together and jointly champion peace, development, cooperation and win-win outcomes need in a changing and more turbulent world.

He advised on making good use of important platforms, such as the BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Group of 77 and China, to speak up for peace and empower development.

Wang said that multilateralism was vital for Global South countries and called on the international community to practice true multilateralism and uphold the U.N.-centered international system, noting the necessity of always ensuring that world affairs were discussed and handled by all nations, with international rules formulated by all countries. 

He said the Global South needs an open and cooperative international environment for development.

Wang assured that China’s heart was with the Global South with China’s root also being in the Global South.

He however, expressed China’s commitment and readiness to join hands with other Global South countries to journey on toward modernization and advance the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
