The Kaduna State Government has expressed willingness to collaborate with civil society organizations and development partners to limit the spread of misinformation and hate speech.
During an Executive Peace Roundtable organized as part of the Delimi PROSPER Project, conducted by Search for Resilience and Development with support from the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRING) Programme of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, State Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, stressed the importance of stronger teamwork to address this growing challenge.
Maiyaki commended efforts that involved young people in peacebuilding but emphasized the need for careful oversight to prevent media content, such as documentaries, podcasts, and digital stories created by youth, from inciting conflict or deepening divisions.
“Communication strategies must reflect the unique social dynamics of Kaduna State,” he stated.
The commissioner warned that reckless language and the dissemination of false information, especially on social media, can quickly escalate tensions and trigger violence.
