Association urges Jigawa govt to immortalise officer killed by terrorists
A community based group, Dutse Emirate Development Association (DEDA), has urged Jigawa State Government to immortalise Lt. Col. Faruk Umar Usman, an indigine of the state killed by terrorists in Borno State.
This was contained in a press statement issued on Thursday by the group’s spokesperson, Muhammad Musbahu Basirka.
The association said that the gallant officer’s service and sacrifice has made him a proud ambassador of Jigawa state and the nation.
Lt. Col. Faruk Umar Usman who hails from Birnin Kudu, paid the supreme price while defending the nation against terrorists in Borno State.
The gallant officer was killed in the line of duty during ongoing counter-terrorism operations against insurgent groups terrorising communities in the North-East.
“His death is a painful loss not only to his family and the Nigerian Armed Forces but also to the people of Jigawa State, Dutse Emirate, and the nation at large.
“Lt. Col. Faruk Umar Usman was widely respected by both soldiers and civilians for his courage, discipline, and compassion. Communities across the North-East consistently commended his commitment and bravery in protecting them from repeated terrorist attacks.
“For many residents who lived under the constant threat of insurgency, he was more than a military commander; he was a symbol of hope and security. His leadership and bravery made him a game changer in several operations and an inspiration to many soldiers serving on frontlines.
“Beyond his distinguished military career, he was known for his generosity and dedication to humanitarian service. He spent much of his personal time and resources supporting the less privileged, assisting displaced civilians, and helping colleagues in need.
“His humility and selfless service earned him admiration wherever he served. His passing during the blessed month of Ramadan reminds us of the depth of his sacrifice in service to humanity and the nation,” DEDA added.
It extended its condolences to the family of the deceased, the Defence Headquarters and the Government and people of Jigawa state under the leadership of Governor Umar Namadi, as well as the people of Birnin Kudu, and the entire Muslim Ummah.
