2027: Abba Moro, Ortom team up with SGF’s APC faction in Benue

From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

The Senate Minority Leader, Sen Abba Moro, has announced what he termed as strategic partnership with the All Progressives Congress (APC) faction led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF Sen George Akume, in Benue State.

Moro made the disclosure during the expanded caucus meeting of the Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held at the residence of former Governor Chief Samuel Ortom on Sunday.

According to him, the strategic partnership is targeted at ending bad governance in the state.

Moro said, “We are putting everything in place against bad governance in Benue. Something is not just adding up in Benue. We are all filing behind Chief Ortom to ensure that the strategic partnership between the PDP and APC works.

“We are partnering on ideas to rescue Benue state and on party slogan. Any candidate that emerged from any of the parties, we would support him.”

He accused Gov Hyacinth Alia of marginalising the people of Benue South Senatorial district, adding that they have resolved to vote him out in 2027.

The Senate minority leader said PDP is on the move and urged party members to massively turn out for the forthcoming party e-registration.

Earlier, Ortom urged the party stakeholders, including local government party chairmen and aspirants, to mobilize massively and participate in the forthcoming e-registration.

The former governor said only the new membership card would guarantee members’ participation in the forthcoming party primaries slated for May.

He explained that the new electoral act makes it mandatory for all political parties to conduct direct primaries.

According to him, all pending cases have been determined by the courts, and the PDP is no longer divided.

On the strategic partnership between the PDP and APC faction in Benue, Ortom said it was necessitated by the current circumstances in the state.

Ortom said as elders and leaders in the state they can not afford to sit, watch, and allow the state to go into extinction as a result of bad governance.

Barr Pius Akutah, Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, an APC governorship aspirant, said the state needs all the peace and tranquillity as 2027 approaches.

Akutah said some persons in the state in the position of authority have been fanning the embers of hate and discord in the state.

In his remark, Sebastian Hon, SAN, also an APC governorship aspirant, said the state is “facing an existential threat,” adding that Benue people must not allow this to continue.

Hon said the most important function of any responsible government is security of lives and property, noting that insecurity is on the rise in the state.

Also speaking, Michael Aondoakaa, former attorney general of the federation, who is also a  governorship aspirant on the platform of APC, said the people of the state must rise up and reject violent politicking.

He said the strategic partnership coordinated by Chief Samuel Ortom is a welcome development that all men of goodwill in the state must join with all sincerity.
