A group of women form the six zones of the country have thrown their weight behind the aspiration of the National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Alile.
The women who jointly purchased her nomination forms told newsmen that they came from all over the world to support the Women Leader because of the fact that she has been able to speak for the women in the present administration.
Leader of the group, Mrs. Joyce Ibrahim said they were confident that Dr. Alile will get the nod of the party faithful to retain her seat.
“We are women who have seen what the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mrs. Mary Alile, has been doing, and we decided that we don’t want her to purchase her nomination form by herself. So we decided to bring our hard work together, pool our resources, and purchase her nomination form for her return.
“As we are all aware, the APC National Convention is coming in a few weeks, and we want her to return and continue the good work she has been doing for the women of APC and Nigeria as a whole.
“But when you have a purpose and direction, and you have the expertise and are applying the things that matter within your role, then you will have confidence. That is why we have seen that she is capable by all the things she has been doing for women. She has done many things, to be honest with you. One of them, which I’ll mention, is the reserved seats bill for women that she is still championing.
“What we have done is that we are six women from the six geopolitical zones, and also the FCT. We have one representative from the FCT, covering the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We also have an alliance where scholarships are given to young Nigerians to study at home and abroad, to obtain their degrees—BScs or BAs. She has also made politics a different game for women”.
On the seeming voter apathy usually notices among women, the group said they are already encouraging women participation in politics by educating them and carrying out advocacy across the country.
On the rumour that there are some stakeholders who are insisting that members of the National Working Committee (NWC) be changed, Mrs. Ibrahim said that will never happen, because the party has agreed that the structure remains the same.
