Alia sets up committee to restructure Benue civil service
The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has inaugurated a committee to restructure the state civil service.
The committee, chaired by the state deputy governor, Barr. Sam Ode, is to review the mandates and supervisory roles of all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.
It will also examine the roles of political appointees such as Special Advisers and Assistants, identify and address overlapping functions within the system.
The Governor said during the inauguration of the committee in Makurdi that the review is part of his administration’s efforts to restore efficiency and improve service delivery in the system.
He said the committee would review the mandates of existing MDAs, including bureaus, commissions and government-owned companies, and recommend appropriate alignments for effective supervision.
“This is a very serious assignment and I urge you to take it very seriously. This idea is aimed at restoring standard operational procedures, strengthening institutional values, and enhancing the quality of personnel for optimal performance in the civil service”, Alia said.
He described the assignment as a call to service and assured the committee of the government’s support.
Responding on behalf of the members, Barr. Bernard Hom SAN, appreciated the confidence reposed in them and pledged to carry out the assignment with diligence.
The committee which comprises select distinguished indigenes of the state is expected to submit its report within two months.
