The Kaduna State Government has provided new plots to residents of Malali Low-Cost in Kaduna, whose homes were demolished by the Nasir El Rufai administration.
The Director General of Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), Dr. Bashir Garba Ibrahim, who presented the land titles to recipients, stated that this gesture fulfills Governor Uba Sani’s promise to deliver justice to the victims.
Dr. Ibrahim explained that the distribution of land titles results from the January 21 stakeholders’ meeting, which agreed to investigate the circumstances behind the demolition carried out by the previous administration.
During the presentation of the new plots, Dr. Ibrahim advised beneficiaries to develop the land quickly.
He also urged them not to resell the plots, adding, “We want you to become homeowners and contribute to the growth of our state.”
On behalf of the beneficiaries, the chairman of the former Malali Low-Cost residents, Alhaji Mohammed Auwal, expressed gratitude to Governor Uba Sani for addressing their concerns.
Recalling their nine-year struggle for compensation, he also commended the KADGIS Director General for his efforts in facilitating the new land allocations.
Other residents praised the Kaduna State Governor for his compassionate, people-centered leadership.
It is remembered that the Kaduna State Development and Property Company (KSDPC) issued a seven-day quit notice to Malali Low-Cost residents in October 2020.
The residents protested the short notice and called for their right of first refusal, prompting the decision to the temporarily shelved.
However, in March 2021, a three-day notice was served, and after it expired, over 80 structures were demolished.
Since the demolition, affected homeowners have been engaging with the Kaduna State Government for compensation or alternative plots.
