From Ibrahim Sidi Muh’d, Gusau
The Emir of Talata Mafara of Zamfara state, Alhaji Bello Barmo yesterday assured that his emirate will do its best to ensure the registration of all indigenes under his domain.
Alhaji Barmo, who gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen at his palace, emphasized that, the Nigerian Population Commission (NPC) and UNICEF had selected his emirate under a pilot scheme that would train about 50 district secretaries on how best they would register birth of children and to issue them with the NPC certificate.
“I have already started mobilizing ward and district heads across the council towards the success of the exercise.
“I can also tell you that, we are going to have a comprehensive record of all births, deaths, still born and adults in homes and hospitals across the emirate very soon,” the emir stressed.
The emir noted that “Such record will constitutionally inform of our existence officially, and to be recognized by governments at all levels especially when national plan is on the table”.
Urging adequate cooperation of his people with the NPC officials who have been legitimately assigned with the responsibility of registering citizens of the country, the emir called on all inhabitants at the districts, wards and villages to ensure the success of the exercise.
