The Sokoto State Police Command on Tuesday continued its lineup of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week with a walkathon aimed at promoting peace, visibility, and public safety in the state.
The walkathon commenced at the Police Command Headquarters along Gwandu Road, Sokoto, and proceeded to Gidan Man Ada Roundabout, covering a total distance of approximately five kilometres round trip.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, said the exercise was attended by officers and personnel of the Command.
According to him, the initiative was designed to reaffirm the visible presence of the police within communities, as well as assure residents that the force remains accessible, responsive, and actively engaged in ensuring public safety. He added that it also demonstrated the physical readiness and fitness of personnel.
Speaking during the event, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, said the walkathon underscores the Command’s commitment to community-oriented policing and aligns with the theme of this year’s celebration, “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”
He emphasised that the police are within reach of the people at all times and encouraged residents to support and partner with the Command in the collective effort to maintain peace and security.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to bring forward their complaints and concerns, assuring them that the police are willing, capable, and ready to address such issues professionally and promptly.
