Bandits open fire on Zamfara governor’s chief of staff

Bandits have opened fire on the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Mouktar Lugga along the dangerous Funtua–Gusau highway where bandits have held sway for a long time.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region, the incident happened around 6:16pm near Kucheri village on Thursday evening.

Lugga was returning to Gusau from an official engagement in a vehicle alongside his driver and two other persons when the shooting occurred.

“Sources said the assailants emerged from both sides of the road and opened fire on the vehicle conveying the chief of staff, his driver and two other occupants,” the report reads.
