Journalist and broadcaster Rufai Oseni has taken a swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his visit to Jos following the attack in Angwan Rukuba on Palm Sunday.
Tinubu had travelled to Plateau State to sympathise with victims and their families, but a video from the visit showing him addressing mourners at the airport and referencing time constraints due to power issues has continued to draw reactions.
Speaking on Arise TV, Rufai questioned what he described as a lack of sensitivity, arguing that the president’s decision not to visit the actual communities affected by the violence raised concerns.
“President Tinubu went to Jos over the recent attack but stopped at the airport. What level of insensitivity is this to the people of this country? Imagine telling victims that he would soon leave the airport because of light,” he said.
He further questioned why the president did not proceed to the affected areas, insisting that such gestures carry weight for grieving families.
“Why didn’t he go to the affected areas? I saw him telling a woman who lost her son that he understands her pain. No, Mr. President, you don’t understand her pain. Nobody does, even me,” he added.
Rufai also reflected on the emotional moment captured in the video, where the president addressed a grieving mother who had lost her only child, stressing that the depth of such loss cannot easily be grasped by others.
