APC Bleeds in Kano as Ex-Senator Gaya Dumps Party for ADC

Date:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has suffered another major political setback following the defection of former senator, Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Gaya, who represented Kano South Senatorial District in the last dispensation, formally resigned his membership of the APC in a letter dated April 5, 2026, addressed to his ward chairman in Gaya Local Government Area. The resignation, according to the letter, takes immediate effect.

The former lawmaker said his decision came after “careful reflection and wide consultation,” stressing that leaving the APC aligns with both his personal convictions and the best interests of his constituents.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to the party for the platform it provided me and for the cooperation and camaraderie extended over the years,” he stated.

The resignation letter was acknowledged by the Gaya Arewa Ward Chairman, Adam A. Adam.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Gaya confirmed his move to the ADC, noting that he maintains a cordial relationship with prominent Kano political figures, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.

He added that efforts were underway to work collectively towards strengthening the ADC and ensuring its success in Kano State.

Gaya’s defection comes on the heels of a similar move by Gawuna, the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kano, who exited the party last week, further deepening concerns over internal stability within the APC in the state.
