The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has announced plans to register no fewer than 4.9 million new members across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state as part of its ongoing e-membership registration exercise.
A key stakeholder in the party and former State Secretary, Hon. Kabiru Aliyu, disclosed this on Wednesday in Sokoto during the opening of a one-day Train-the-Trainer (ToT) session for officials who will conduct the two-week registration exercise.
Aliyu said the exercise, which is set to commence immediately, aims to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 general elections. He noted that the PDP is targeting at least 20,000 new members in each of the 244 political wards in the state.
“We must commend the state and national leadership of the party for this bold initiative to register new members nationwide,” he said. “This is a critical exercise that will significantly boost the party’s membership strength and enhance its chances in the 2027 general elections.”
Also speaking, the Co-Chairperson of the committee overseeing the exercise, Hon. Zainab Dogon-Daji, said the training was designed to equip participants with the necessary technical skills to effectively carry out the registration process.
She added that the training would be cascaded to all political wards across the state to ensure smooth implementation.
In his remarks, a former Commissioner for Water Resources and former governorship candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Sokoto State, Hon. Dahiru Yusuf Yabo, urged party members and residents to actively participate in the exercise.
“We should all be patriotic and take part in this crucial exercise to avoid disenfranchisement in the 2027 general elections,” Yabo said.
Another stakeholder, Hon. Hayatu Tafiya, also called on residents to come out in large numbers and register, stressing the importance of broad participation in strengthening the party’s structure in the state.
