African Championship: NSC DG reassures Team Nigeria Judokas of Govt. Support

Date:

The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, on Monday lifted the spirits of Team Nigeria’s senior judo athletes with a morale-boosting visit to their training camp as preparations intensify for the upcoming African Senior Judo Championship in Nairobi.
Olopade, accompanied by members of his team, met the judokas during a training session and reassured them of the Federal Government’s full backing as they gear up to represent the nation at the continental showpiece later this month.
Addressing the athletes, the NSC boss commended their dedication while urging them to remain disciplined and committed in pursuit of success.
“I salute your dedication and commitment, but I also want to urge you all to stay disciplined at all times and continue to work hard to achieve a successful outing in Kenya,” Olopade said.
He also conveyed goodwill from the Chairman of the Commission, Shehu Dikko, noting that the leadership remains keen on ensuring judo attains its full potential through adequate support.
Highlighting the significance of the competition, Olopade stressed that the championship also serves as a pathway to Olympic qualification, underlining the importance of proper preparation.
“All your requests have been approved. Your job now is to go out there and make the country proud, both in performance and conduct,” he added.
Team captain, Kehinde Aremu, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a timely morale booster that has further motivated the athletes to deliver strong performances.
“The visit has put more fire in our belly to go out there and do Nigeria proud,” Aremu said.
The DG capped off the visit by donating cash to the athletes, leaving the camp in high spirits ahead of their departure.
The African Senior Judo Championship is scheduled to take place from April 20 to 29 in Nairobi, where Nigeria will be aiming for podium finishes and valuable ranking points on the road to Olympic qualification.
