2027: Mimiko quits PDP, cites political realignment

Date:

By Lateef Ibrahim

A former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic (Party), signalling a possible political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mimiko’s decision was conveyed in a resignation letter dated April 10, 2026, and addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 7 in Ondo West Local Government Area.
In the letter, the former governor stated that his exit from the party takes immediate effect, explaining that recent developments and his distance from party activities necessitated a clear position on his political status.
He noted that while he had gradually withdrawn from active participation within the PDP, it had become important to formally notify the party of his departure.
Despite his resignation, Mimiko emphasised that he holds no resentment towards the party or its members.
His exit adds to the growing wave of political movements and recalculations among key actors as parties and coalitions begin to take shape ahead of the next electoral cycle.
