Mukhtar Usman Galadima has described the Nwonyo Fishing Festival as a premier cultural asset, stating that the event is on course to become a major international tourism attraction.
Galadima, who is vying for the House of Representatives seat for the Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency, expressed this view during a press briefing in Wukari.
He said the festival’s growing prominence reflects a promising future for the region’s cultural visibility.
Highlighting the site’s geographical advantages, Galadima noted that Nwonyo Lake is one of the longest in the region, offering a suitable natural setting for large-scale tourism infrastructure.
He added that the festival has a rich historical legacy that remains central to the identity of the local people.
According to him, the lake provides a serene environment capable of supporting significant tourism development.
Galadima also expressed satisfaction with the organisation of this year’s edition of the festival, commending stakeholders for their commitment to its success.
The aspirant, while noting that the festival coincides with Jukun Youth Day, urged young people to become active custodians of their cultural heritage. He encouraged them to take the lead in organising similar cultural events annually.
He stressed that such proactive engagement by the youth is essential for promoting Jukun heritage globally and ensuring the preservation of their traditions.
