‘We have no faction’ — NMA declares

Date:

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has debunked reports that the association is not factionalized.

The Secretary General of NMA, Benjamin Egbo stated this on Friday in Abuja, while giving update on the 66th Annual General Conference and Delegate meeting in Kano.

He said the association remains one indivisible body, headed by its President, Bala Muhammed Audu.

Speaking further on the controversy making rounds on social media, he said the falsehood was engineered by some disgruntled doctors who were disqualified from contesting election.

“Out of 20 candidates, six candidates did not fill their nomination forms properly, and they were disqualified for incomplete nominations. That’s the origin of this brouhaha.

“Also, there were four presidential candidates. Out of the four, three did the requisite provisions and were cleared. There’s only one person that didn’t do it, and he was disqualified.

“And the theory is that if you don’t allow me to contest, let us bring down the roof. It’s quite unfortunate how we have degraded ourselves to this level.

“It may interest you to know that these group of doctors wrote to us, that they needed an emergency delegates meeting, but we told them that their request for emergency delegates meeting falls short of the constitutional requirements. Rather than going back to do the needful, they decided to resort to self-help and conducted an illegal AGM yesterday.

“We have reported these nefarious activities to the relevant security agencies, and they will be called to come and give answers for their actions at the appropriate time. “

While explaining the rules, he said, “these regulations were not set by us. They were set by the previous administrations.”

Similarly, Mannir Bature, the National Publicity Secretary of the Association, said Bala Muhammed Audu remains the President of the Association.

He said the president is working tirelessly for the conference in Kano, which will usher in new executive.

“Most of those people making troubles will not be in Kano, because some of them are not even registered delegates.
