A former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has expressed dissatisfaction with the direction of the ruling party, saying it has strayed from the ideals that inspired its formation.
Lukman, who was among the founding members of the APC, said recent developments within the party have been discouraging and reflect a departure from its original vision.
The former APC chieftain, now aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the remarks while speaking on The Morning Show on Arise TV.
He noted that although public discourse often centres on crises within opposition parties, the ruling APC is also contending with internal contradictions capable of triggering deeper challenges.
Lukman pointed to the party’s consensus arrangements across states, claiming many of them have collapsed, an indication of underlying tensions within its structure.
According to him, “I feel disappointed having been part of the founding members of the APC and knowing the vision that pushed us to form the party. To see where APC is today is quite disappointing.”
He added that the unfolding situation within the ruling party could lead to crises that may not have been anticipated by its leadership.
Despite the concerns, Lukman maintained that politics remains a contest of ideas and interests, expressing optimism that Nigerians would ultimately make informed decisions at the polls.
He also signalled confidence in the ADC’s chances, insisting that the party is prepared to engage in the political contest and offer an alternative to voters ahead of the 2027 general election.
