The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has warned young people to abstain from promiscuous life, in order not to truncate their future.

This was contained in a message, delivered during the training of 31 Community Health Workers, corps members, and community-based organisations on Behavioral Change and HIV/AIDS prevention by UNFPA.

It was gathered that the training, which took place on Wednesday, in Calabar, was organized to enlighten the people on the need to manage and prevent HIV/AIDS.

A representative of the UNFPA and a facilitator at the workshop, Mrs. Tochie Edele, said that the participants were drawn from the rural areas, to help them acquire skills in tackling the scourge of HIV/AIDS in the rural communities.

Edele, who spoke on: `The basic facts about the dreaded HIV/AIDS’, stressed the need for parents and guardians to monitor the activities and behavior of their children and wards, in order to be able to put them on the right path.

According to her, it is important for youths to abstain from pre-marital sex because early active sex life could truncate their progress and future.

Another facilitator, Dr. Olajide Sobande, who spoke on promotion of the use of condom in HIV/AIDS prevention, said sexually transmitted diseases are a health problem that affects adolescents all over the world.

While commending the organizers of the workshop, Mrs. Lillian Oyama, said UNFPA’s effort is a step in the right direction especially in the prevention of HIV/AIDS in rural areas.
