Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern directive to contractors to deliver on schedule or miss the boat for President Bola Tinubu’s third-anniversary commissioning marathon.
During an intensive inspection tour of the city’s massive infrastructure projects on yesterday, Wike made it clear that while he is satisfied with the quality of the engineering, he remains skeptical about the speed of some construction firms.
The Minister’s tour covered a wide geographic footprint, signaling a push to transform Abuja’s connectivity and aesthetic before the May 2027 milestone.
Key projects under the spotlight include Jahi–Gwarimpa Interchange, which is currently at nearly 95% completion; Airport Road to Kuje Junction, it is expected to wrap up by the end of this month.
Others are the City Gate Project- a landmark entry point being handled by Julius Berger, Wuse/Central Area Link Roads- it’s quality is high, but the clock is ticking.

Perhaps the most ambitious revelation from the tour was the technological upgrade planned for the City Gate, a “different landscape” promised for visitors within the next month.
According to him, the project is not merely an architectural facelift but a security hub.
While Wike showered praise on Arab Contractors for their efficiency on the Airport-Kuje corridor, he was more cautious regarding other sites.
Despite the “very good quality” of work at the Jahi Interchange and Wuse link roads, the Minister explicitly voiced his doubts about their ability to meet the looming deadlines.
