There are very strong indications that the fate of Rivers state governor, Sim Fubara is now hanging on the balance after he angrily stormed out of the venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening ahead of the party primary election coming up later in the month.
Governor Fubara who arrived at venue at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro area of Abuja lasted for barely 10 minutes in the building before he left the house, wearing a very unhappy face.
All efforts by journalists covering the screening exercise to speak to the governor proved abortive as he quickly entered his waiting car and zoomed off.
It was also noticed that unlike the case of other governors who were usually escorted to their cars by some of the Screening Committee members, which were also members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, nobody escorted Fubara.
However, speaking to newsmen after the exercise, National Secretary of the APC, Sen. Ajibola Basiru, who was also the Secretary of the Screening Committee refused to reveal whether Fubara has been screened out or not, saying that the party was yet to deliberate on the report of the committee.
“There is no need to focus on only one aspirant. As you can see, the Screening Committee just ended its assignment here, it’s now left for us to put the report together and present to the party, it’s only then we will begin to talk about who is screened out or not”.
It could be recalled that anxiety has been rising over the fate of Governor Fubara after he failed to appear for the screening earlier like most of his colleagues.
On Saturday, National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda brushed aside the question concerning the fate of Fubara, claiming that he was not the only governor that was yet to appear for the exercise.
Fubara ‘s political problem started after he fell out with his now estranged godfather and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike who has vowed that the embattled governor will not be reelected for a second term.
It was also gathered that some of the loyalists of Wike like, Alabo-George Kelly and the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda also bought the APC nomination forms.
However, all efforts to reach the camp of Governor Fubara failed as all calls to his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi did not pick his calls.
