The African Democratic Congress, (ADC), has recorded a major political boost in Niger State following the defection of over 5,000 members from the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Labour Party, (LP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP).
The defectors joined the party during a political gathering held over the weekend in Wushishi Local Government Area of the state in support of the governorship aspiration of Dr. Mohammed Kpautagi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among those who dumped their former parties was Mallam Abdul Ishaku, a former APC candidate for the House of Assembly in the 2023 elections.
Speaking on behalf of the new members, Ishaku attributed their decision to what he described as confidence in Kpautagi’s leadership style and the expanding political structure of the ADC across the state.
He noted that the movement signaled the beginning of major political realignments ahead of the 2027 polls, expressing confidence that the ADC would become a formidable force in Niger State politics.
The defectors were received at the party’s secretariat in Wushishi by the ADC Local Government Chairman, Hussaini Zakari Makun Sidi.
Sidi assured the new entrants of fairness, inclusion and equal opportunities within the party, stressing that the ADC remained committed to accommodating Nigerians willing to contribute to democratic growth and political development.
