The Federal Housing Authority on Wednesday commenced the construction of a 200-unit housing estate in Ofada, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State as part of efforts to address the nation’s housing deficit.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the FHA Gateway Estate was performed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Oyetunde Ojo, alongside other dignitaries.
Speaking during the ceremony, Ojo said the project was in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to expand the nation’s housing stock.
He said the estate would add about 200 housing units to the national housing stock, describing the project as another milestone in fulfilling the administration’s housing mandate.
According to him, the project is a partnership involving the FHA, Greenpasture Homes and Akkenog International Company Ltd.
Ojo disclosed that the estate would consist of 95 units of two-bedroom apartments and 100 units of three-bedroom terrace duplexes.
He said the FHA would provide technical expertise and oversight, adding that the agency remained the foremost housing delivery institution in the country.
The FHA boss noted that the Authority intended to deploy the Public Private Partnership model extensively across the country to boost housing delivery.
He stressed that solving Nigeria’s housing challenges should not be left to government alone, calling for more partnerships with private investors and developers.
Ojo also commended Tinubu’s administration for ongoing reforms in the housing sector.
He particularly praised the reconstruction of the Sagamu-Owode road, which passes through the estate, saying the project had significantly increased the value of the development.
He appealed to members of the host community to cooperate with developers to ensure smooth execution of the estate project.
Earlier, the Executive Director of Estate Services and Chairman of the FHA Groundbreaking Committee, Arc. Ezekiel Nya Etok, said the current administration had recorded remarkable achievements in the housing sector.
Etok expressed optimism that Nigerians would soon begin to identify housing projects under Tinubu’s administration in the same manner “Jakande houses” became popular in the 1980s.
Also speaking, the General Manager, Partnerships, Arc. Peter Okpanachi, said the estate would provide residents with safety, comfort and serenity.
The Managing Director of Akkenog International Company Ltd, Pastor Kehinde Ogunusi, described the partnership process as thorough and capable of delivering success.
Similarly, the Managing Director of Greenpasture Homes Ltd, Engr. Oloyede Oluwale, assured subscribers and investors that the project would be delivered according to approved standards and timelines.
He added that quality would remain a top priority throughout the construction phase of the estate.
