From Bashir Rabe Mani in Sokoto
In a bold move to clamp down on the activities of miscreants and other social vices, the Sokoto State Hisbah Board has arrested 11 suspects following a raid on a house believed to be a haven for illegal social activities involving women, including minors.
The development comes as the state government intensifies efforts to curb social vices and enforce public morality across the state.
Our correspondent gathered that the Hisbah Board carried out the raid, which led to the closure of the alleged hideout and the arrest of the suspects.
The operation, conducted on Wednesday evening in the Sokoto Cinema area of the Sokoto metropolis, resulted in the arrest of several men and women allegedly linked to activities considered contrary to the moral and religious values of the state.
The raid was carried out under a special enforcement campaign tagged “Operation Tsaftace Birnin Shehu,” aimed at sanitising the metropolis and tackling acts regarded as social misconduct.
According to reports, operatives of the Hisbah Board stormed the residence after receiving intelligence reports and petitions from members of the public.
The suspects were apprehended during the operation, while the building was sealed pending the outcome of further investigations.
The enforcement exercise was supervised by the Acting Commander of the Hisbah Board, Imam Sirajo Abubakar, who also serves as the Director of Da’awah and Aids.
Shortly after the operation, the board reaffirmed its determination to rid the Sokoto metropolis of activities believed to be contributing to moral decay and the corruption of young people.
The board also warned residents involved in similar acts to desist immediately or face legal consequences, stressing that the ongoing operation forms part of broader measures to preserve public morality and social order across the state.
