Guardiola bids farewell to Man City on Sunday after decade in charge
Manchester City FC on Friday confirmed that Pep Guardiola will be stepping down as the club’s manager at the end of this season.
The confirmation followed earlier report that Guardiola’s last game in charge of City will be at the Etihad on Sunday against Aston Villa in the final match of the 2025/2026 season.
The announcement comes a few days after City surrendered the English Premier League (EPL) title to Arsenal following a draw against Bournemouth.
The Spanish manager had been in close pursuit of Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, and was looking to add to the 20 trophies he won in his 10-year spell at City.
Speaking on his exit, Guardiola said “there is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time.”
“And what a time we have had together. Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time. Nothing is eternal, if it was, I would be here. Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City,” he said.
Guardiola arrived at Man City in June 2016 and has become the club’s most successful manager in his decade-long stay with the club, including 17 major titles and three Community Shields.
The 55-year-old has won six EPL titles, including an unprecedented four consecutive triumphs.
He also won the club’s elusive UEFA Champions League crown in 2023, completing the season with a treble that includes the EPL title and FA Cup, for the club’s first-ever European treble.
Guardiola won five Carabao Cups – including the last three – and won the last of his three FA Cup crowns with a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium last week.
He did not lose a match in the two domestic Cups his side played in this season, claiming both Carabao and FA Cups in the process.
