The conduct of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Taraba State has come under scrutiny after former Minister of Transport, Engr. Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, called for a review of the process.

Sambo, through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Dr. Sam Idiagbonya, appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC to intervene, saying the election fell short of the democratic ideals the party claims to uphold.

Correspondent reports that APC Primary Election Committee had on Saturday declared incumbent Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas winner of the ticket with 166,357 votes. Sambo was listed as first runner-up with 4,110 votes.

Idiagbonya said the outcome had left many loyal APC members in the state feeling betrayed and politically sidelined, argued that the process was overshadowed by what he described as an overwhelming display of political force.

He said the allegations of irregularities, exclusion, and lack of transparency must not be ignored if the party hoped to maintain its credibility in Taraba.

According to him, ignoring such concerns risked damaging the party’s democratic image.

Idiagbonya urged the APC national leadership and party chairman to urgently review the conduct of the Taraba governorship primaries to restore confidence among members.

“Politics may be about power, but even power must respect process. Today, many loyal APC members in Taraba feel betrayed, humiliated, and politically orphaned.

“What we perceived during the governorship primary election was an overwhelming political force overpowering internal democracy.

“The APC must rise to its purpose, defend its honour and also remain a model of democratic process,” he said.

The appeal sets the stage for a possible review of the primary as the party prepares for the 2027 governorship election in Taraba State.
