Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon finalises £70m move to Barcelona
Anthony Gordon is currently finalizing a high-profile permanent transfer to La Liga champions FC Barcelona.
Barcelona agreed to a £69.3 million (€80 million) package with Newcastle United.
He has traveled to Spain to undergo his medical and is set to sign a five-year contract before joining up with the England national team for the 2026 World Cup.
In the 2025–26 Season Gordon experienced a quieter campaign in domestic competition, but his breakout performances in European football made him one of the most sought-after wingers on the continent.
Gordon exploded in the UEFA Champions League this season, scoring 10 goals in 12 appearances. His goal-scoring tally in Europe was surpassed only by Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane.
In domestic league play, he recorded 6 goals and 2 assists in 26 appearances for a transitioning Newcastle side.
Primarily operating as a left winger, manager Eddie Howe deployed Gordon as a central striker throughout parts of the season to maximize his blistering speed and intense counter-pressing ability.
