The All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate for the Kogi East Senatorial District, Chief Joseph Ameh Erico, says his personal experience with hardship has given him a deep understanding of the challenges faced by ordinary citizens, pledging inclusive representation and people-oriented leadership if elected in 2027.
Erico made the remarks on Thursday during a grand reception held in Ejule Community, Ofu Local Government Area, where party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters gathered to celebrate his emergence as the APC senatorial candidate and reaffirm their commitment to the party ahead of the general election.
Addressing supporters, the APC candidate said his background and life experiences have shaped his understanding of the struggles confronting many families across Kogi East.
“I understand the suffering of the people because I have experienced hardship myself,” he said, assuring residents that he would remain accessible and committed to addressing their needs through effective representation.
Erico thanked APC leaders, stakeholders, and supporters across the district for their support during the recently concluded senatorial primary election, describing his emergence as a collective victory for the party.
He pledged to pursue policies and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the people, creating opportunities for young people, and supporting farmers through enhanced agricultural programmes.
The APC candidate also identified security as a major concern in the district, stressing that lasting development can only be achieved in a peaceful environment.
He promised to deploy his experience as a security expert to support efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability across Igala and Bassa communities.
According to him, his ambition is driven by a desire to foster unity and development in Kogi East, assuring party members that he would justify the confidence reposed in him.
Erico further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for what he described as purposeful leadership and ongoing development efforts, promising to complement government programmes through quality representation at the National Assembly.
Several party leaders who spoke at the event described Erico as a candidate capable of representing the interests of the district.
The APC Kogi East Zonal Chairman, Hon. Ogwu Abdul Alhassan, thanked stakeholders from the nine local government areas for supporting the candidate and urged members to remain united ahead of the election.
The Executive Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area and ALGON Secretary, Hon. Urah John, described Erico as a grassroots politician with strong support among the people.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Baby Okwute, called for continued support for the APC candidate, while the Vice Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Prof. Salisu Usman Ogbo, described him as humble, dependable, and accessible.
The Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Nwuchiola Egwaba, said Erico possessed the competence required to represent Kogi East effectively at the Senate.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, congratulated Erico on his emergence as the APC candidate and urged party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 election.
He appealed to aggrieved aspirants and their supporters to work together for the success of the party, while also calling on youths to shun violence and political bitterness.
The event also featured the defection of Hajiya Akpidi Mariam Habib Yakubu from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APC alongside more than 200 supporters.
Explaining her decision, Akpidi said she was motivated by the developmental efforts of the Kogi State Government and her desire to contribute to the growth of the APC in Kogi East.
She was formally received into the party by the APC Kogi East Zonal Chairman.
The reception attracted government officials, party leaders, council chairmen, commissioners, advisers, political appointees, and supporters from across the district.
