The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has completed its senatorial primaries in Kaduna State, revealing three candidates who will carry the party’s banner in the 2027 general elections.
The process, praised by party leaders as transparent and credible, produced winners in Kaduna North, Central, and South districts.
Senator Khalid Ibrahim Mustapha Soba was chosen as the ADC candidate for Kaduna North Senate District. Announcing the results, Returning Officer Ibrahim Sidi Bamalli stated Soba received 83,070 votes to secure the nomination. He added that the outcome had been approved by the party’s national headquarters, highlighting the ADC’s strong leadership.
“The result of this election has been accepted and appreciated by the ADC national headquarters. This is proof that we have capable leaders across the state and country who can deliver Nigeria,” Bamalli said as he declared Soba the winner.
For Kaduna Central, the party selected Senator Lawal Adamu as its candidate. Returning Officer Abdullahi Chiroma announced the results, confirming Adamu’s victory after the primary held throughout the district.
In Kaduna South, Mr. Godfrey Gaya secured the ticket after a competitive race. Returning Officer Murtala Abubakar reported Gaya scored 28,378 votes to beat Hon. Aminchi Abu, who received 5,299 votes. Gaya was then declared the ADC’s candidate for the district.
“Having scored 28,378 votes, Mr. Godfrey Gaya is hereby declared the winner and is eligible to contest on the platform of the ADC for Kaduna South Senate District in the 2027 general election,” Abubakar announced.
The primaries were overseen by party stakeholders and attended by aspirants from the three zones. Observers noted that voting was peaceful, with returning officers strictly adhering to the party’s electoral rules.
ADC leader and gubernatorial hopeful Isa Ashiru praised the officials for their professionalism, saying their conduct boosted confidence in the party’s internal democracy and set a positive tone for 2027.
“You have served the ADC diligently, and I wish you the very best. Your efforts have shown fairness and justice to all contestants,” Ashiru said at the end of the announcement.
He expressed confidence that the party was well-positioned to challenge the ruling parties in the state. “By God’s grace, we will reclaim our mandate,” he added, calling on members to stay united ahead of the elections.
Reacting to his victory, Senator Khalid Ibrahim Mustapha Soba said he was prepared for the challenges ahead. He pledged to run an issue-focused campaign centered on representation, security, and development in Kaduna North.
“I am ready for the battle ahead,” Soba declared, vowing to work closely with party structures and voters to provide effective representation.
With the primaries finished, ADC now shifts its focus to mobilization and voter engagement across the state. Party leaders say the election of experienced candidates like Soba, Lawal Adamu, and Gaya shows the ADC’s plan to offer credible alternatives ahead of 2027.
