The Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended the Speaker of the Auyo Legislative Council, Haruna Maigari, over allegations of anti-party activities.
The decision was taken during plenary in Dutse after lawmakers unanimously adopted a motion calling for disciplinary action against the council speaker.
The motion was moved by the House Majority Leader, Lawan Dansure, who argued that conduct deemed harmful to the interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC )should not be overlooked.
Dansure told the House that acts of indiscipline and alleged anti-party activities at the grassroots level could weaken party cohesion and affect its electoral fortunes in future contests.
He urged members to support measures aimed at preserving party unity and strengthening the APC’s structure across the state.
Following deliberations, lawmakers unanimously endorsed the motion, paving the way for the suspension of Maigari.
Announcing the decision, Speaker of the House, Haruna Dangyatin, declared that the Auyo Legislative Council speaker had been suspended with immediate effect pending the outcome of an investigation.
“Hon. Haruna Maigari is hereby suspended as Speaker of Auyo Legislative Council over alleged anti-party activities,” Dangyatin stated during the plenary session.
To determine the validity of the allegations, the House constituted an investigative committee and directed it to submit its findings within two weeks.
According to Dangyatin, the committee has been mandated to establish the facts surrounding the allegations and make recommendations for further action where necessary.
The House also directed the suspended council speaker to hand over all official documents, responsibilities and legislative duties to the Deputy Speaker of the Auyo Legislative Council to ensure uninterrupted administration of council affairs.
The suspension comes amid growing political activities and reported disciplinary measures involving some APC members in Jigawa State following the party’s recent primary elections.
