In a significant step forward in local healthcare delivery, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has procured and distributed 48 modern vein finders and accessories to 14 Secondary Healthcare Facilities (SHF) across Abuja,
It was gathered that the initiative, driven by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, aims to modernize clinical operations and dramatically improve the patient experience in public hospitals under the Hospitals Management Board (HMB).
Making this point, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary for the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), noted that these advanced medical devices are critical for improving the accuracy and efficiency of venous access procedures.
Fasawe added that: vein finders illuminate superficial vein patterns, making it substantially easier for medical personnel to locate veins for intravenous (IV) cannulation and insertion, blood sample collection (venipuncture), fast, and painless access during emergencies.
According to her: “These machines will make it easy to access a patient’s vein in a quick, painless manne.
“The technology will be particularly beneficial for children, elderly individuals, and obese patients who often present with challenging venous anatomy.”
The Health Secretary further noted that the technology protects patients from the discomfort of multiple needle pricks. It allows newly trained doctors to secure IV access swiftly and confidently, ultimately making hospital visits far less traumatic for vulnerable patients.
She assured that to guarantee the effective deployment and longevity of the new equipment, the FCTA conducted intensive, in-house practical training sessions for healthcare representatives from all 14 beneficiary hospitals.
“The training programs focused on: proper handling and operation to ensure immediate clinical efficiency. Application techniques tailored to diverse patient demographics.
“Routine maintenance to guarantee long-term sustainability across all facilities,” she stated .
