The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State, , has dismissed reports alleging that he has withdrawn from the state’s governorship race, insisting that he remains firmly in contention.
Gusau, a former deputy governor of Zamfara State, described the claim as false and politically motivated, saying it was designed to create confusion among voters and supporters.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Press Secretary, Salisu Mohammed, the ADC candidate condemned the report as a fabrication orchestrated by political opponents seeking to undermine his campaign.
“We wish to categorically state that this report is false, baseless, mischievous and the handiwork of desperate political elements whose sole objective is to mislead the public, create confusion within the polity and undermine the democratic process,” the statement read.
Mohammed stressed that Gusau remains the duly recognised ADC governorship candidate in Zamfara and has neither withdrawn from the race nor indicated any intention to do so.
“At no time has he withdrawn his candidature, nor has he authorised any individual or group to speak on his behalf regarding such a matter.
“Any publication, statement or social media post suggesting otherwise should be disregarded by party members, supporters, stakeholders, INEC and the general public,” he added.
The statement urged ADC supporters across the state to remain focused and committed to the party’s political agenda, rather than be distracted by what it described as unfounded rumours.
It also advised members of the public to verify information through official channels before accepting or circulating reports concerning Gusau’s participation in the governorship election.
The rebuttal comes amid heightened political activities in Zamfara State as parties intensify preparations ahead of the governorship contest.
