Kano By-Election: Police Assure Adequate Security for Dawakin-Kudu/Warawa Poll

The Kano State Police Command has assured residents of adequate security ahead of the forthcoming by-election for the Dawakin-Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency scheduled for June 20, 2026.

The by-election became necessary following the death of the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hassan Danjuma.

Speaking to journalists after a stakeholders’ meeting involving security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and political party representatives in Kano on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said all necessary measures had been put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawan Mani, the police commissioner said the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, was fully prepared to provide adequate security throughout the election period.

“The most important aspect of any election is adequate preparation. INEC has made arrangements for the deployment of election materials, and it is now our responsibility to provide sufficient security to ensure a hitch-free exercise. We have made all the necessary security arrangements,” Mani said.

He added that all security agencies were working closely together to guarantee a peaceful election, noting that movement restrictions would be imposed in Dawakin-Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas on election day to facilitate smooth conduct of the poll.

Earlier, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kano State, Ambassador Abdu Zango, expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements discussed during the stakeholders’ meeting.

Zango disclosed that Warawa Local Government Area has 15 registration areas, 303 polling units, and 162,445 registered voters, while Dawakin-Kudu has 15 registration areas, 143 polling units, and 75,623 registered voters.

According to him, INEC officials had already conducted assessment visits to both local government areas and were satisfied with the level of preparedness for the by-election.

The REC further revealed that more than 2,000 ad hoc personnel had been engaged for the exercise, while non-sensitive election materials had already been deployed to the affected areas.

He said the commission had continued to engage stakeholders, political parties, and security agencies to ensure the election is conducted peacefully and successfully.

Zango commended the police and other security agencies for their cooperation and support, expressing confidence that the by-election would be conducted without disruptions.
