The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has announced the tragic passing of two female pilgrims from the state in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
The sad event occurred shortly after the victims successfully completed the 2026 Hajj exercise.
Confirming the incident, the agency expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased, noting that the pilgrims passed away in the holy land following the conclusion of their spiritual rites.
The State Deputy Amirul Hajj and Grand Khadi of Sokoto State, Alhaji Sodangi Acida, disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Makkah.
A statement issued by the Agency’s spokesperson, Faruku Umar, said that the deceased pilgrims are: Ladi Umar from Bodinga Local Government Area and Hadiza Umar from Yabo Local Government Area.
Alhaji Sodangi Acida conveyed the condolences of the Sokoto State Government to the families of the deceased pilgrims and prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Jannatul Firdaus.
According to him, the other two female pilgrims involved in the accident are currently receiving treatment at a Saudi hospital, with one being treated for a fracture and the other for an arm dislocation.
Speaking on the return journey of the pilgrims, the Deputy Amirul Hajj stated that the first batch of Sokoto State pilgrims is scheduled to depart for Nigeria on 14th June 2026.
He explained that the return flights would be conducted on the principle of “first to arrive, first to depart.”
The Grand Khadi also cautioned pilgrims to strictly adhere to the approved luggage regulations, emphasizing that each pilgrim must ensure that their luggage does not exceed the stipulated 32-kilogram limit per bag.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar JJ, expressed profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr AhmadAliyuSokotoFcna, for his unwavering support and commitment to the welfare of Sokoto State pilgrims throughout the Hajj exercise.
He further commended the State Government Delegation, the Chairman and Board Members of the Agency, members of staff, and the entire 2026 Sokoto State pilgrims for their support, cooperation, and dedication, which contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the Hajj operation.
