A tragic Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion along the Bagega-Anka road in the Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State has left one person dead and seven others suffering from various degrees of injuries.
​The incident occurred at approximately 6:15 pm on Monday.
According to Sambo Dan Bagega, a local resident, a commercial vehicle transporting passengers from Bagega to Anka detonated the explosive device after driving over it.
Community members strongly suspect that the IED was planted by armed bandits, a notorious group that has continued to terrorize and disrupt the peace within the region.
“The passengers were traveling from Bagega village to Anka town when the device detonated, killing one passenger on the spot. Seven others sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical care at a local healthcare facility in Bagega.
Responding, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Zamfara state Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying a suspected IED explosion on Anka-Bagega road claimed the life of one person while seven others sustained various degrees of injuries.
The PPRO informed that, joint security forces have swiftly acted to contain the terrible situation, adding that the command dispatched specialized tactical teams to the scene, working in close collaboration with the military.
According to him, these joint forces were deployed to thoroughly assess the situation, clear the hazardous road, and guarantee the safety of the area, as well as immediate restoration of peace and normalcy along the transit route.
He reiterated that the Police Command remains fiercely committed to ending banditry and terrorism within the state, pointing at recorded major breakthroughs the security agency has achieved in recent days.
According to him, no stone will be left unturned in the ongoing effort to wipe out terrorist elements, appealed to members of the community to maintain strong cooperation with security agencies, emphasizing that continuous public support through provision of credible and timely information is vital to winning the peace.
“Let us continue to support every lawful and necessary measure to strengthen security, protect our schools, safeguard our communities, and ensure that every bandit faces the full weight of justice.
“The challenge before us is real, but so too is the courage of our people, the resilience of our institutions, and the enduring promise of Nigeria.
“Let us therefore approach the days ahead with collective resolve, let us differ honestly, but remain united in our devotion to Nigeria.
“Let us continue to conduct ourselves with dignity so that future generations will say that when Nigeria faced difficulty, this Senate did not falter; when leadership was required, this Senate did not shrink; and when duty called, this Senate answered.”Akpabio said.
Akpabio urged lawmakers to be mindful that they are not merely representatives of their constituencies, but custodians of the hopes and aspirations of Nigerians who looked up to to the Senate for the realisation of a greater nation.
Akpabio congratulated political parties that recently concluded their primaries and internal democratic processes. and felicitates those who have secured the mandate of their parties to seek re- election.
He said: “I know that there will always be victories and disappointments, yet above every individual triumph stands the greater triumph, the triumph of democracy itself.”
