The House of Representatives has called for an immediate investigation and prosecution of those behind a violent farmers- herders clash that rocked Lanzai and neighbouring Dosho communities in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State, leaving at least nine people dead and dozens displaced.
The lawmakers made the resolution on Wednesday after adopting a motion of urgent public importance moved by Mansur Manu Soro, who represents the affected constituency.
Presenting the motion, Soro told the House that last week’s violence escalated into a deadly confrontation that claimed lives, injured residents, and destroyed about 50 residential huts alongside other property.
Lawmakers expressed deep concern over the humanitarian fallout of the attack, noting that women, children, and the elderly have been left exposed after widespread displacement of families from the affected communities.
The House further warned that the recurring cycle of farmers-herders clashes across the country continues to threaten national security, food production, and rural stability.
In its resolutions, the House mandated the Inspector-General of Police to deploy full investigative and intelligence resources to identify and arrest perpetrators, while directing the Department of State Services to intensify surveillance and early-warning operations to prevent further attacks.
It also urged the National Emergency Management Agency and the North-East Development Commission to immediately provide relief materials, temporary shelter, food, and medical support to victims.
Additionally, lawmakers called on relevant ministries to accelerate long-term solutions, including structured livestock management, grazing control, and ranching policies aimed at addressing the root causes of the conflict.
The House committees on Police Affairs, National Security, Emergency Preparedness, and the North-East Development Commission were mandated to monitor compliance and report back within six weeks.
