Private Leagues: Clubs risk expulsion, loss of registration – NLO

Date:

By Amaechi Agbo

The Nationwide League One (NLO) Secretariat has issued a warning that member clubs participating in private leagues, thereby breaking away from the official national league pyramid, will face sanctions.
In a formal communication, the league’s regulatory authority emphasised the importance of compliance with regulations established by FIFA, the FA, and NLO.
It noted that some clubs have been involved in private leagues that contradict the guidelines outlined in the NLO rule book.
The message serves as a reminder that, according to FIFA and FA National League System Regulations, a club cannot compete in a private league while also participating in the national league pyramid during the same season.
Clubs are bound to a single governing framework, and engaging in private leagues may lead to severe disciplinary measures, including expulsion and deregistration.
The message urges clubs to think about the long-term effects of their choices and to uphold the sport’s values and regulations.
Maintaining the club’s integrity and avoiding private league involvement is in everyone’s best interest. Additionally, the NLO Secretariat is planning activities to keep clubs engaged post-regular season.
