The newly appointed Secretary General of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Dr. Peter Izevbuwa Ozo-Eson has called on Nigeria media to make labour its focal point as compared to politics and other issues.

Pointing out the contrast at an interactive section held in Abuja yesterday with members of the press, the labour man urged the media to become critical on labour matters in order to regain its vibrancy.

Dr. Peter, who took over office on Monday, 1st September from Acting General Secretary, Comrade Chris Uyot said the elements of media need to work together with labour movement hence the importance of the interaction session.

He said the agenda of his office though will not deviate from the one provided by the national executive council, but will rather set straights its objectives. “Agenda had been provided by national executive council and it is what we will pursue, he said.” The Secretary promised to work with NLC affiliates in order to protect the interests of workers. He said, “There had been innovative moves in improving workers’ welfare.

It would be recalled that, the national executive council of NLC at its last meeting held in Enugu state on 15 August, appointed Dr. Peter as the new substantive General Secretary. Until his appointment, he was the Chief Economist of the NLC.
