The Green Assembly Initiative has reaffirmed its confidence in Nigeria’s democracy, urging citizens to embrace responsible citizenship and support efforts aimed at tackling the country’s security challenges.
Members of the group, led by Ambassador Duke Alamboye, staged a peaceful procession on Democracy Day to demonstrate their faith in the nation’s future despite growing concerns over insecurity and other socio-economic difficulties.
Addressing journalists during the rally, Alamboye expressed optimism that the government remained committed to addressing insecurity across the country.
He pointed to ongoing deliberations by the National Assembly on the proposed establishment of state police as a sign of the administration’s resolve to strengthen the nation’s security architecture and protect lives and property.
The Green Assembly Initiative leader also sympathised with families of recently abducted pupils and teachers, assuring them that authorities were making concerted efforts to secure the victims’ release and reunite them with their loved ones.
Speaking at the event, Barry Avotu cautioned Nigerians, especially the youth, against spreading fake and unverified information.
According to him, the circulation of false narratives weakens national unity and undermines the sacrifices of security personnel confronting terrorism and banditry across the country.
He urged citizens to verify information before sharing it and to cooperate with security agencies in their efforts to restore peace and stability.
The procession ended with participants renewing their commitment to national unity, peaceful coexistence and support for initiatives designed to deepen democracy and enhance security in Nigeria.
