Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is scheduled to visit Benue State on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a nationwide programme aimed at empowering women, strengthening families, and improving the wellbeing of vulnerable groups across the country.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, Sir Tersoo Kula.
According to the statement, Mrs. Tinubu, who is also the National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative, will engage with women and beneficiaries of the programme during her visit as part of efforts to deepen its impact at the grassroots level.
Governor Hyacinth Alia expressed delight over the forthcoming visit, describing it as another positive step in the collaborative efforts between the Federal and Benue State governments to improve the lives of citizens, particularly women and families.
A major highlight of the visit will be the commissioning of 10 out of more than 45 newly completed roads in Makurdi, constructed by the Alia administration.
The roads, which span a total of 11.5 kilometres, are expected to enhance urban renewal, improve mobility, stimulate economic activities, and improve the quality of life for residents.
The roads slated for commissioning include Ishaya Bakut Road (Dual Carriageway), Off Ishaya Bakut Road Spurs 1, 2 and 3, Abu King Shuluwa Road, Mama Mbateren Alia Street (formerly Keke Napep Road), Dabo Plaza to Fashion Hub Road, Sir James Iorpuu Street, Tyagher Gbaa Street, and Jato-Aka Road.
Following the road commissioning ceremonies, the First Lady is expected to proceed to Ihugh in Vandeikya Local Government Area, the hometown of Governor Alia, where she will commission and officially hand over a Community ICT Centre.
Speaking ahead of the visit, the Benue State Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Mrs. Scholastica Bensor, said all arrangements had been concluded to ensure a successful event.
She noted that women across the state were excited about the visit and called on women, community leaders, support groups and members of the public to turn out in large numbers to welcome the First Lady and showcase the hospitality and unity of the people of Benue State.
