FUDMA Warns Against Absenteeism, Vows to Sanction Culprits 

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman says the management will no longer tolerate the poor attitude to work being exhibited by some staff of the university.

Prof. Othman gave the warning during an interactive session with Provosts, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department and Unit.

“I wish to inform you that the University management has noticed with dismay, the escalation of poor attitude to work by some staff,” he said, warning that the culprits should either desist from the intolerable practice or face the wrath of the management.

The Vice Chancellor directed all Provosts, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department and Unit to strictly monitor the staff under them to ascertain the level of compliance, and stressed that appropriate sanctions would be applied on those found wanting.

Prof. Othman mandated the Heads of Department to open attendance register and file daily audit of staff under them, and query those found absent.

The Vice Chancellor also directed them to forward the report of such staff members to the Registrar for necessary disciplinary action.

“We should put it at the back of our minds that we shall be accountable for our deeds before our Creator on the day of judgement. I am warning you against covering irresponsible staff who display truancy in their primary responsibilities. If you are caught, you will face disciplinary measures”, he added.

He said the directive is not meant to witch hunt anybody, and cautioned the departmental and units heads not be unnecessary harsh to their subordinates, but ensure that the staff are responsible to their primary duties.

The Vice Chancellor sought for the support of the unnversity community as the management focuses on the movement of some faculties and students to the permanent site to reduce congestion.

“The management is injecting a lot of resources and amenities to make the main campus more secure and conducive for teaching and learning”, he said, calling for intensified prayers for God’s continued protection.

In his remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Sulaiman, said it was imperative for the staff to reciprocate the efforts of the university management as it strives to enhance their welfare.

In his address, the Registrar, Dr. Musa Ajiya, said the extant laws of the university are clear on absenteeism, advising members of the university community to comply with laid-down regulations for the betterment of the system.
