As part of its sustainable city management, the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) it set to install modern street liter waste binsat strategic locations and streets of the Federal CapitalTerritory (FCT).
This was revealed by the Board’s Head of Information and public outreach programme, Mr. Joe Ukairo, at the weekend.
He said the FCT Minister Senator Bala Mohammed has approved the procurement and the installation of litter bins within the city centre.
Ukario who disclosed, that the project is going to be executed by the FCT administration through the Board, in partnershipwith some stakeholders from the private sector.
“We have been reaching out to corporate organisations, telecommunication industries and banks to brand the street litter bins, by adopting aparticular streets with their logos.
“We know that government cannot do the project alone.The waste bins are very important, but government finances do not always come when it is due, that is why we are looking for thiscollaboration,” he stressed.
The AEPB spokesman continued: “Accordingly, the FCT Administration and AEPB has picked selected corporations and organisations to have a stakeholders briefing on thetotality of the project.
“The meeting is for the selected corporations’ to support the projectas their social responsibility to keep the environment clean.”
He added that the investment for the project is not just for the present time but for the future generations, saying “to have a healthier, cleanerenvironment, all hands must be on deck, because we are all co -owners by ensuring the environment ispreserved.”
