Ex-Governor accuses Amosun of selling agricultural land

From James Oguunnaike, Abeokuta

The immediate past Governor of Ogun State and a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has accused his successor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, of selling off the farmlands in the State to neighbouring states.

Speaking during a political summit of the Labour Party, at Odeda local government area in Ogun State, Daniel alleged that the Amosun led regime had neglected the agricultural sector, which he said, was the mainstay of development in most local government areas in the state.

“When I came into power in 2003, the first place we visited was Odeda and we recognised that agriculture is the main stream here, we resuscitated the Eweje farm settlement which was established by Obafemi Awolowo when he was the Premier of the Western zone,” Daniel recalled, adding, “we established 13 other farm settlements. But today, Amosun has started selling our farmlands to other neighboring states.”

“The most interesting business after agriculture is quarry. During our time, we ensured that one indigenous citizen was there to monitor them, but now, it has been taken over by other people”, he stated,” he said.

He also pointed out that the election of the incumbent government in the state was mistake saying “what we are witnessing now from the government we mistakenly put into office, is that our people are being discriminately sacked.”

The former Governor, who urged the Amosun led government to be tolerant with the electorates, also said, “If anybody in service is found to be aligned with the opposition party, he or she will be shown the way out that was not our style of governance.”
