The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, participated in the Fifth Ministerial Meeting of the Steering Committee for the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline (TSGP) Project involving Nigeria, the Republic of Niger and Algeria on June 5, 2026.
The meeting was held at the Centre International des Conférences (CIC), Algiers.
The Nigerian delegation, led by the Minister, included the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, NNPC Limited., Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye.
Delegations from the Republic of Niger and Algeria were led by their respective Ministers responsible for petroleum and hydrocarbons, alongside technical experts, officials of the three countries, and representatives of NNPC Limited, Sonatrach, Société Nigérienne des Produits Pétroliers (SONIDEP) and PENSPEN.
The meeting reviewed the outcome of the revalidated feasibility study for the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline Project and considered the next steps towards its implementation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the three countries signed and approved the final feasibility study report as the technical and economic reference for the project’s next phase.
They also agreed to commence practical implementation procedures, conclude the necessary enabling agreements, and sustain coordination among their respective national oil companies to advance the project.
Upon completion, the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline is expected to facilitate the transportation of natural gas from Nigeria through the Republic of Niger to Algeria and onward to European markets, reinforcing the Federal Government’s commitment to commercialising Nigeria’s vast gas resources while strengthening regional and international energy cooperation.
