A Sokoto State High Court has sentenced six men to death by hanging after finding them guilty of armed robbery in separate cases.
Justice Malami Umar Dogon Daji, who delivered the judgments on Wednesday, sentenced five convicts—Ibrahim Hassan, Dansule Mohammed, Aminu Isah, Bello Mohammed and Mubarak Mande, all from Kwannawa area on the outskirts of Sokoto metropolis—to death.
The judge said the convicts were charged with criminal conspiracy and theft under Sections 279 and 287 of the Sokoto State Penal Code, as well as illegal possession of firearms contrary to Section 30 of the Penal Code.
Justice Dogon Daji noted that the convicts, aged between 20 and 30, were arraigned before the court on January 23, 2024.
He condemned their involvement in violent crime, describing it as disturbing, particularly given their young age.
In a separate judgment, the court also sentenced Aminu Aliyu to death by hanging after convicting him of armed robbery.
Justice Dogon Daji said Aliyu was arraigned on July 15, 2025, and found guilty of armed robbery under the relevant provisions of the Penal Code.
