The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says nine political parties have so far collected access codes required to upload the particulars of their candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC National Commissioner in charge of Voter Education and Publicity, Malam Haruna, disclosed this in Abuja, saying the collection of the access codes forms part of the candidate nomination process.
According to him, the political parties that have collected the codes are the Accord Party, Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Haruna explained that political parties are required to collect the access codes directly from the commission, adding that INEC does not deliver them to party secretariats.
He further stated that any individual collecting the access code on behalf of a political party must present a letter of authorisation issued by the party’s leadership.
The INEC commissioner also urged political parties to comply strictly with the commission’s guidelines on candidate nomination to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
