A fire outbreak at the Bono Energy Terminal, located within the Ibru Jetty Complex along the Apapa–Oworonshoki Expressway near Coconut Bus Stop in Olodi Apapa, was successfully contained on Friday, with no casualties recorded.
The incident involved a 5-million-litre Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) storage tank and was reported at about 12:04 p.m.
Firefighters from the Ajegunle, Sari Iganmu and Isolo Fire Stations responded promptly, arriving at the scene within 12 minutes to begin emergency operations.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the coordinated efforts of its personnel and emergency teams from neighbouring oil and gas facilities brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby storage tanks and other critical infrastructure. The fire was completely extinguished by 1:54 p.m.
Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the cause of the fire has not yet been established and is currently under investigation.
She commended the swift collaboration among all emergency responders, noting that their timely intervention helped avert what could have become a major industrial disaster.
Authorities confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded in the incident, while investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
