The Chairman of AFDIN Group of Companies, Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, has pledged to support the transformation of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) into a world-class centre of excellence.
Alhaji Dahiru Mangal made the pledge when he received the University’s management team, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman, who paid him a courtesy visit.
The visit was aimed at establishing strategic collaboration between the university and the business mogul, to drive educational development in Katsina State and Nigeria.
He expressed his gratitude to the FUDMA delegation for the visit and accepted the invitation to serve as Special Guest at the University’s forthcoming 10th and 11th Combined Convocation Ceremony.
“I must categorically declare that FUDMA and Umaru Musa Yar’adua University have facilitated educational development in Nigeria. Synergy between resources and industry is timely”, Mangal stated.
“I will do everything humanly possible to collaborate with FUDMA to enable it achieve the dream of becoming a world-class citadel of learning.”
Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Othman, said FUDMA currently has a student population of about 40,000 drawn from different parts of Nigeria, with Katsina State having a reasonable percentage of both staff and students, being the host state of the university.
He said youths constitute approximately 70 percent of Nigeria’s population, emphasizing the critical role universities play in shaping the nation’s future.
“Universities, being the Ivory Towers of knowledge, dissect societal ills and proffer solutions to them. They encompass the resources to transform the mindset of the country’s teeming youths to become productive assets rather than liabilities”, the Vice Chancellor said.
“This can be realized through collaborations aimed at re-engineering education to drive industries.”
Prof. Othman described Mangal as a “nation builder”, and commended his philanthropic gestures, which have provided comfort to numerous people across states, tribes and religions.
The Vice Chancellor advised the business mogul to institute the “Dahiru Mangal Professorial Chair” in FUDMA, to further deepen his contributions to education and societal development.
The management team also formally requested Alhaji Mangal to serve as a Special Guest at the forthcoming Convocation ceremony of the University, scheduled for November or December, 2026, a request Mangal graciously accepted.
The collaboration between FUDMA and the AFDIN Group of Companies is expected to create new opportunities for academicindustrial synergy, potentially enhancing research capabilities, infrastructure development and students’ welfare.
